Lead Commissioning Engineer - Protection & Control

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Commissioning Engineer looking to gain SPEN authorisations and lead the commissioning of new-build and upgraded substations across Scotland’s Central Belt.
You don’t need prior experience working on the SPEN network. My client has several greenfield projects where you can start commissioning while working towards the required live-working and substation-entry authorisations.

Must have at least 5 years' experience successfully carrying out Lead Commissioning Engineer roles in the UK, from 132kV up to 400kV.

Senior P&C Design Engineer & Lead P&C Design Engineer
12 Month rolling contract SPEN Transmission
Contract overview:

Monday – Friday 37.5 hour working week,

Up to £800 day rate for Lead and Upto £700 day rate for Senior level (PAYE inside) pending on technical answers at interview.

£125 daily travel expenses with receipts fully reimbursable

WFH with 2 day fortnightly visits to the clients Cambuslang offices.

Job Purpose
Lead the development and delivery of Protection and Control engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV and above). Provide technical expertise in the design, specification and delivery of protection, automation, substation control, telecommunications and metering systems, ensuring compliance with safety, quality and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities

Lead basic and detailed engineering design and specifications for Protection and Control systems.

Provide technical expertise and support throughout project design, construction and commissioning.

Review technical submissions, design drawings and engineering documentation.

Ensure compliance with legislation, company standards, operational requirements and CDM principles.

Support project teams in resolving technical and construction issues.

Contribute to pre-contract design, feasibility assessments, project budgets and cost-effective engineering solutions.

Identify and implement new technologies, industry best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, design houses and manufacturers to deliver integrated project solutions.

Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute to technical training and development.

Promote high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance.
Skills & Experience
-
Engineering degree with relevant industry experience.
-
Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.

Proven experience in electrical infrastructure or transmission network projects (33kV–400kV).

Expertise in one or more areas: Protection, Substation & Network Control, Automation, Telecommunications or Metering.

Strong technical, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Understanding of transmission network plant, equipment and operational requirements.

Experience in delivering innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions.

UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites and factories.
