P&C Design Engineer - HV 12 Month-contract

Senior P&C Design Engineer - Manchester

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Site Supervisor to join a market-leading EHV principal contractor permanently. 

As the Project Site Supervisor, you will be working on the largest EHV major infrastructures in the UK connecting large scale offshore wind farms and HVDC double circuits 220/400kV cables to the onshore grid networks.

Responsibilities

​

  • You will be responsible for supervising site-packages on the cable installation between landfall to the substation.

  • Supporting the Construction Manager and Site Managers with quality documentation.

  • Management and supervision of direct and subcontractors while ensuring the work is carried out to the approved safe systems of work. 

  • Identify and proactively Implement Risk Management across all work activities.

 

EHV Supervisor Expectations 

​

  • Be able to work nationally within the UK on high Voltage cable Installation projects.

  • Build and maintain effective client relationship management while providing staff leadership and support. 

  • Experienced in site-based activities and excellent subcontractor labour management

  • Extensive experience installing EHV Cable systems 220/400kV.

  • Knowledge of National Grid and DNO distribution safety rules

 

Qualifications

  • BESC / Person/ NG competent person NSI 6, 8 & 8 Enhanced.

  • PC Literate on MS suite i.e. Word, Excel

HV Commissioning Engineer - Ireland

Our client is expanding their major projects division for a permanent Commissioning Engineer to work on HV substation new build, asset replacement and protection schemes on the IRE and private networks HV up to 220kV.

​

Commissioning across the IRE substations network. Working from home at the end of each of the commissioning projects to complete the commissioning documentation. Occasional office attendance for Co meetings, training and development programmes.

Commissioning Engineer Responsibilities

 

  • Commissioning on the primary, secondary and associated ancillary plant.

  • Carrying out commissioning on various protection relays while using Omicron.

  • Protection maintenance on protection systems

  • Record and collate commissioning testing records to be incorporated with the H&S files of each project.  

  • Work through all schematics, cubicle wiring and functional testing

  • Carry out and aid to develop method statements and risk assessments in all commissioning activities.

  • Commission instrument transformers, power transformers and HV GIS switchgear.

Skills & Experience

​

Proven experience in a responsible position and knowledge in one or more of the following areas at

​

  • HNC qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent as an entry requirement though

  • Minimum 5 years’ working as an engineer on electrical power networks, or for companies providing services to electrical power networks

  • Competent and experienced commissioning HV substations on 33/220kV voltages.

  • Proven experience having worked on protection plant including but not limited to ABB, Toshiba and Siemens.

  • Knowledge of DCD, station digital control systems.

  • Understanding of typical protection philosophies as applied to Transmission Systems

 One of our clients are urgently seeking an experienced Lead Protection & Control Design Engineer to join them on 6 month rotation contract on the clients 132Kv transmission programmes.

​

The role will see you carry out detailed engineering specifications and designs on 132Kv transmission networks. 

 

Overview 

  • Define protection and control and ancillary apparatus requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation and advise on construction and outage programmes where required in relation to Control & Protection.

  • Responsible for basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for Networks and Plant Protection Systems, Network Automation and Substation Control Systems, Telecommunication Networks and Metering.

  • Responsible for technical assessment of tender submissions, preparation/review of Control & Protection design drawings and specifications.

  • Ensure Networks and Plant Protection Systems, Network Automation and Substation Control Systems and Telecommunication Networks are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.

  • Provide technical support to the Project team on matters concerning the design, construction and operation of control and protection systems and lead the technical resolution of site/ construction Control & Protection issues.

HSE Manager Duties

  • Coordinate all HSE activities and reports with the Business Unit Manager and the National HSE Manager.

 Faraday has a permanent SAP role working for a fast growing engineer company that carries out commissioning and O&M on HV private networks, DNOs, solar and onshore wind farms.
